Message from the Founder
Dear Music Lovers,

Perhaps you are not aware, but Indian classical music is said to have originated from the Sama Veda. This is one of the oldest forms of music known to man. Scholars tell us that this music is at least three thousand years old; perhaps even more. One of the most striking features of this art is that very little of this has ever been written down. This art has come to us because it was handed down to us orally through centuries and has been assimilated into our lives. The reason is, it was not considered necessary (to be written) because no one believed that there was any danger of our culture losing this tradition.

As many of you are aware, today, Indian classical music is facing a tough challenge of survival. Our culture is under danger of extinction. With deep rooted entrenchment of Bollywood music and MTV, Indians are losing touch with this traditional form of music.

Some of us who are passionate about this art have embarked upon a mission to keep it alive and to make it available to the newer generation. With this goal in mind, I started Indian Classical Music Society of greater Atlanta (ICMS) along with a few friends back in 1994. We have kept it going with the support of enthusiasts like you and talented musicians who are carrying this tradition forward. We want to continue this activity with even greater vigor and hope to reach out a broader audience in and around Atlanta.

If you love music, we at ICMS need your support in spreading this art. Bring your friends and family to our concerts. If you can’t always attend, spread the word around.

I hope you become a member of the Indian Classical Music Society of greater Atlanta (ICMS). Together we can keep the Indian classical music alive. If you want to know more about ICMS or have any questions please feel free to contact any of our committee members. See you at the concerts.

Sincerely,
